Total obligated funding

Average obligated amount

Funding for awards started each year

Each bar adds up the funding recorded by NSF for UMD awards that began in that year. For example, the 2020 bar includes awards that started in 2020, even if NSF added funding later. It does not show money received or spent during 2020.

Number of awards started each year

Each bar counts the NSF awards in this dataset that began at UMD College Park during that year. For example, 129 awards started in 2020. Each award is counted once, regardless of its funding amount or how many years it lasts.

Five-year funding trend

Funding recorded for NSF awards that started at UMD College Park in each of the latest five completed calendar years. These are totals attached to awards, not annual receipts or spending. The current year is excluded because it is incomplete.

How this project works

Python collected public award records from the NSF API. Records were filtered to the exact recipient name, University of Maryland, College Park. Dates, funding amounts, and duplicate award IDs were checked before the data was saved in a Databricks Delta table.

SQL grouped the awards by start year. This interactive page displays those aggregated results.

Funding represents cumulative obligated amounts in the downloaded records, grouped by award start year. It does not represent spending during each calendar year. The dataset covers the collected NSF search results, rather than all UMD research funding.

This dashboard reads reporting data published from Databricks. The latest report publication time appears above the charts.
